About us

What is play based learning?

Play is essential for children’s learning and development. Knowing that
virtually every aspect of the development of the human brain is shaped by
experience, we teach through active learning, cultivating play-based
experiences that spark imagination, creativity, and a sense of wonder.

Curriculum

Math

We create activities that allow children to learn skills such as recognizing
shapes, understanding patterns, and counting. They also learn to measure
and compare by size and volume. These help develop critical-thinking and
problem-solving skills, helping to lay a foundation for future academic
success.

Curriculum

Social/Emotional

We strive to have positive classrooms with daily routines to help foster the
development of social/emotional learning. The predictability of the day
helps children thrive and feel more comfortable. We offer both indoor and
outdoor playtime, giving children the opportunity to interact, develop
friendships and practice cooperation. Open ended activities offer endless
possibilities for discovery and help children grow in confidence, creativity,
and relational skills.

Curriculum

Literacy

Children are read to daily and have access to an everchanging library of
books. We have special guest readers and encourage our parents to read
both at school and at home. We have books available to borrow. Through
literature children are exposed to text, build oral language, and increased
comprehension.

Curriculum

Science

Science stimulates curiosity and helps children observe, make predictions,
ask questions, and think about how the world works. Hands-on learning
occurs as children feel the stickiness of the inside of a pumpkin, squeeze
vinegar on baking soda and observe the reaction, plant seeds and watch
our flowers sprout, and release butterflies we’ve cared for since they were
caterpillars.

Curriculum

Risk Taking

Through exploration and play, children gain the ability to calculate risks as
they develop gross-motor skills, gain confidence, and overcome fears.

Curriculum

Music and Movement

Music is one of a child’s greatest expressions. Children enjoy music and
movement every morning. In addition to creative expression, children use
large muscles, promoting gross motor development. They also sing at
chapel and perform two programs a year. One at Christmas and one at the
end of the year.

Curriculum

Faith

Nurturing a relationship with Jesus is the greatest gift we can give to our
children. As teachers and staff, we believe we are the hands, feet, and
voice of Jesus in the lives of everyone we connect with; especially the
children and families entrusted to our care. Our students participate in
chapel one time a week where they hear a Bible story and sing with the
pastor. We are a faith community and invite any student from any faith to
be part of our community.
